Game Master Guide Chapter GM04: Tech Levels
Tech Levels Tech levels restrict what the characters can purchase. They will not always be on the Core Worlds of the Empire where they can find anything. Often they will be in the colonies, fringe worlds, or in one of the Race Empires, and have limited access to equipment, or services. This will help you figure out whether they can buy that power armor or have their starship repaired at this starbase. The law level should be determined whenever the characters arrive at a new place, including the start of the game.
Level Description 0 Community Age: The civilization can co-operate and possible communication with each other, to aid in the group or tribes survival. Typically hunter/gatherers. Circa Pack Hunters, such as Xanthranians, Darphies, Earth Whales, Earth Primates. 1 Stone Age: The civilization is comfortable using both fire and fashioning tools with whatever is available. Possible agriculture has been developed. Circa Earth Neanderthals, Cro-Magnon. 2 Metal Age: The civilization has just begun to use metals in agriculture and warfare. Considered very primitive. Cities and trade are developed. Circa Earth 2000 BC to 17th century. 3 Technological Dawn Age: The civilization has developed electricity and simple mechanical machinery. Animal power is still prevalent. Circa Earth 18th & 20th centuries. 4 Space Age: The civilization has initiated their reach for the stars, and has explored their own solar system. Simple Electronics, and Artificial building materials prevalent. Circa Earth Now. 5 Stellar Age: The civilization has developed the ability to travel beyond their solar system. Still not capable of colonization they are capable of conducting limited battle in space. 6 Empire Colonies: Technology available in the fringe colonies of the Empire. Technology has been developed to settle other worlds, and transform them to improve living conditions. 7 Empire Core: Technology available in the heart of the Empire. Empire State of the Art, Experimental Technology. 8 Empire Golden Age: Empire Golden Age Research from the time of the start of the Koranda War. Most now has been lost. Koranda Equivalent.
